Expressions of interest to take part in trials to give schools responsibility for alternative provision following permanent exclusion

The Schools White Paper 2010 announced that the Department would trial a new approach to exclusions where schools would be responsible for finding and funding alternative provision for pupils they decide to exclude.

The Department plans to commence trials in September 2011. The trials will test the new approach with a diverse range of local authorities (LAs) including a mixture of rural and urban LAs and high and low excluding LAs. LAs are invited to express their interest in taking part in the trials.
