Summary
A public consultation was launched on 24 May 2012 on proposals to overhaul outdated legislation to protect children involved in performance. The proposals are designed to simplify and modernise the legislation, and to clarify when an activity needs a licence, as well as responsibilities for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children involved. Under these proposals, local authorities will continue to be responsible for licensing and approving children to take part in performances and activities such as paid modelling.
