Summary

National Citizen Service is a great opportunity for all 16-year-olds. You will want to bring it to the attention of the young people your teams are working with, including looked after children and those in contact with youth services.

National Citizen Service is a new, ambitious programme delivered by local providers and supported by the Department for Education and the Cabinet Office, giving young people the opportunity to:

  • learn new skills, develop confidence, leadership skills and learn about team work
  • meet new people from all walks of life
  • make a real difference to their community; and
  • take part by spending two weeks away from home, plus an additional 30 hours working in their communities.

Working as part of a team they have the chance to participate in various outdoor activities, and design and deliver their own project in their local community, working with other young people to improve the area they live in.

Further details of the programme and NCS providers are available on the NCS page of the Department's website.
