Cascade to: Heads of Young People's Services.

The Department for Education is collaborating with local authority (LA) representatives, young people, the youth sector, business and other Government Departments to develop a new cross-government statement of policy on young people and services. A range of discussion papers have been published for comment on the Positive for Youth section of this website. On 7 July, an overarching narrative that brings together the issues set out in those papers was published. Comments are invited to the positivefor.youth@education.gsi.gov.uk mailbox by 15 September and will inform the development of the policy statement which the Government plans to issue in the autumn.

Given the immediate challenges facing LAs as commissioners of services for young people, the Government is providing additional funding of £230,000 in 2011-12 and £550,000 in 2012-13 to ensure LAs get the support they need. The Department and the Local Government Group (LGG) have published a joint note inviting views from LAs on what practical support they need. This support will then be commissioned nationally by the LGG. Comments on this are invited to the LGG by 15 September. The note can be found on the Positive for Youth section of this website and the  Children and young people section of the LGG (LGA)website.

Action required and due date
