Technology Strategy Board to play a key role in accelerating innovation for the benefit of business; will publish strategy soon.
Commenting on today's launch of the Science and Innovation White Paper, the Technology Strategy Board Chief Executive, Iain Gray, welcomed the Government's plan to create an "Innovation Nation" and said that the Technology Strategy Board will play a key role in making this a reality.
"This White Paper's agenda is ambitious, yet innovation is vital for the UK's future prosperity. We need to innovate to respond to today's many challenges, such as sourcing renewable energy, handling traffic congestion, delivering healthcare for an ageing population and managing environmental pollution and waste. We recognise that such challenges present major opportunities for British business, both at home and in global markets.
"The Technology Strategy Board has a key role to play in addressing these opportunities and accelerating innovation" he added. "We will work closely with partners in a leadership role, co-ordinating support for innovation. Our initiatives and investments will make new connections; we will act as an innovation catalyst for business, making a real difference to the prosperity and competitiveness of the UK."
Iain Gray also announced that the Technology Strategy Board will soon publish its 3-year strategic plan. "When the new Technology Strategy Board was established in July 2007 we inherited a strong foundation of successful programmes supporting and promoting innovation. We are now building on that foundation, and have new visions and ambitions. Our goal is to make the UK a world leader in technology-enabled innovation and our strategic plan will help us over the coming years to reach that goal."
