Developing innovative approaches to inflammatory diseases
01 Mar 2010
A group of medical research and innovation funding bodies, including the Technology Strategy Board, has launched a call for applications to set up pilot Therapeutic Capability Clusters, in inflammatory respiratory diseases and in joint and related inflammatory diseases.
The Capability Clusters will change the way research is done in translational medicine by focusing on areas, particularly early clinical studies, where industry has a strong interest in working with academia and where both the public (NHS and academic) and private sectors will gain by working closely together.
Each Therapeutic Capability Cluster will consist of several academic and NHS research centres of excellence with relevant capabilities and a range of enabling technologies, and a single point of contact to coordinate the collective activities of these centres and the cluster's interface with industry.
An open meeting has been arranged in London on 3 March for interested UK NHS/academic researchers with relevant expertise, and the deadline for submitting initial applications to the call is 29 March.
