A Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) Competition to develop and demonstrate innovative, pre-commercial energy storage technologies which can address grid-scale storage and balancing needs in the UK electricity network.
DECC is seeking applications to develop and demonstrate innovative energy storage technologies which can address grid-scale storage and balancing needs in the UK electricity network in the run up to 2020 and beyond. Applications will be assessed against key criteria, including a wide range of technical and economic performance parameters, project management capability and likelihood of commercialisation. The competition is open to any type of energy storage technology which meets the competition scope and eligibility criteria.
Contracts will be awarded on a competitive basis to successful bidders to develop and demonstrate pre-commercial energy storage technologies which offer value for money; where there is genuine innovation taking place and where there is a realistic chance of future deployment. A total budget of up to £17m is available for the competition.
