UK support for the Syrian National Coalition

06 December 2012

The Syrian National Coalition Representative to the UK has met the Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign Office.
David Quarrey, Director, Middle East and North Africa with Walid Saffour, Syrian National Coalition Representative to the UK, 5 December 2012.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said:

“The UK Director for the Middle East and North Africa, David Quarrey, welcomed the Syrian National Coalition Representative to the UK, Mr Walid Saffour, to the Foreign Office (Wednesday 05 December) to discuss British policy towards Syria. They discussed the latest developments in Syria and David Quarrey set out the UK’s support for the National Coalition as it takes forward its work to widen support among the Syrian people, and to set out a plan for political transition.

Mr Saffour’s appointment as the National Coalition Representative to the UK is a sign of the progress the National Coalition are making and we look forward to working closely together as we provide practical support in the coming weeks and months.

Following this David Quarrey then chaired a meeting of the members of the UK's Syrian community, including representatives from a range of activist groups, to strengthen links with them and discuss how to end the appalling bloodshed in Syria”.
