This panel gave an opportunity for a number of Member States to discuss how to ensure coherence between the open working group on Sustainable Development Goals and the processes to create the post 2015 development agenda, including the High Level Panel. It was an interactive discussion moderated by Barbara Adams, a member of the Civil Society Reflection Group, with contributions from representatives of Member States and an open question and answer session with the audience, including questions taken from participants watching via livestream webcast.
As the world and UN system approaches 2015, the milestone for the realization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), many discussions are underway following the Rio+20 Summit on the future of the MDGs and their relation to the new generation of development goals that will succeed them.
The purpose of this event - 'Toward a New Generation of Development Goals', a day of informal discussions, was to bring together key participants – in civil society, the UN system and among political decision-makers – to continue discussions to move toward a new generation of development goals.
