Theresa May reacts to Winsor report on police pay

'Police officers should be rewarded fairly and reasonable for the work that they do and that's why I asked Tom Windsor to review police pay and conditions.

'It's the most comprehensive review for more than thirty years. I asked him to make recommendations that were fair to officers and staff and fair to the tax payer. I’d like to thank tom for the work that he has done

'Obviously I now have to look at the results of that report, but what I do know is that, with a record budget deficit, we are in exceptional circumstances. And with three quarters of police budgets going on staff, pay and conditions has to play its role in ensuring we can keep officers’ jobs, keep officers on the street and cut crime.'
