Dear Accounting Officer Letters

'Dear Accounting Officer' (DAO) letters are used to provide specific advice on issues of accountability, regularity and propriety and annual accounting exercises. They supplement guidance published in Managing Public Money.

This page indexes extant DAOs, issued by the Treasury Officer of Accounts team (TOA) in HM Treasury. Files are listed in reverse chronological order.

Following a review of all DAOs, the majority of pre-2008 DAOs have been withdrawn.  Details of these DAOs, together with ther reasons for their withdrawal, are contained in the document below.

Users who experience difficulties in obtaining DAOs or require further information should contact Kate Adedipe in TOA, Room 1/21, HM Treasury, 1 Horse Guards Road, London SW1A 2HQ (GTN 270-5314)

The documents are available in Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). If you do not have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer you can download the software free of charge from the Adobe website. For alternative ways to read PDF documents and further information on website accessibility visit the HM Treasury accessibility page.
