CF Energy Applications

Consumer Focus provides several online tools that offer information and advice on energy related services.  These tools allow you to find out what grants and discounts you are entitled to, how the energy suppliers are performing and how much different tariffs and suppliers cost.  Collectively these tools are known as the "Energy Apps".

CF Labs has been working to redevelop some of these tools to provide more features, to make them easier to use, and to make them more cost effective to run.

Energy Price Comparison Service

The Energy Price Comparison Service (EPC) was inherited from Energywatch – a predecessor to Consumer Focus. The EPC provides a rough idea of the cheapest cost from each supplier based on factors such as location, usage type and payment type.

Last year, Consumer Focus appointed a new supplier of data for the service. CF Labs has undertaken a complete rebuild of the system to receive this data and include various new features such as permanent URLs, updated PDF Fact Sheets and a better account management system.

Energy Supplier Performance Service

The Energy Supplier Performance Service (ESP) is a new service for publishing rankings for energy companies based upon their handling of complaints. The service ranks energy suppliers using a star rating system – 0 for the worst performing company, 5 for the best. The data used to power the service is updated quarterly by the Energy team at Consumer Focus.

As well as displaying current rankings, a historical view is also available and the data is published in JSON and CSV formats.
