The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge

The Queen

HM The Queen and TRHs The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Vernon Park, a newly protected Queen Elizabeth II Field, in Nottingham on 13 June as part of the Diamond Jubilee tour. HM The Queen unveiled a plaque at Vernon Park following a speech by The Duke of Cambridge dedicating The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge to Her Majesty as a tribute to the Diamond Jubilee.  There was a Field Day of activities by schools from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The Duke started a race and the Duke and Duchess took part in a javelin-throwing activity; before walking round some of the stalls.

“Fields in Trust, I know, is very dear to my grandparents’ hearts, as it is to mine” You can read the full text of The Duke’s speech here.

You can read news coverage of the day through the multiple links on our news page.

Create an Olympics legacy in your area

Protecting local spaces for kids to play sport and people to train on - whether it's formal sports pitches, athletics tracks or parks - is a vital element of building grassroots sports. If you feel that the Olympics are too remote and don't mean anything for your local area, why not change that by getting involved with the QEII Fields Challenge?

Whether you are a Town or Parish Council, Sports Club or individual together we can bring the aspiration of a grassroots Olympic legacy alive.
