Welcome to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) Media Centre page.

Information for Editors

DVLA is best known for providing drivers with an updated tax disc for their vehicle. But we’re much more than that. We support law enforcement by maintaining an up to date register of drivers and vehicles. We also help deliver a wide range of road safety initiatives in conjunction with the Department for Transport, for which we are an executive agency. As part of the parliamentary structure, we are accountable to the general public, so all our activities are governed by the higher quality standards. We play a major role in crime prevention and crime reduction through enforcement, prosecution and intelligence gathering. Our customers include the public, vehicle dealers, traders in personalised number plates and vehicle importers and our partners and stakeholders are police forces, magistrates and civil courts, motor trade associations etc.

Operating from our HQ in Swansea and 39 local offices, 12 enforcement centres and unlicensed vehicle hotline centre spread across GB, we employ over 7,000 staff.

The Agency is highly regarded as an efficient and well respected organisation and has been awarded the Charter Mark Standard and Customer Service Excellence Standard. It is also accredited as an Investor in People organisation.
