Host a Nation Week

The East Midlands will host athletes from 5 countries at Pre-Games Training camps as they undergo their final preparations before this summer’s Olympic and Paralympic Games. Teams will be based at a number of venues across the region, including Israeli Swimmers in Corby, Australian and Canadian Badminton players in Derbyshire and Egyptian Paralympians in Lincolnshire.

Running from 16 – 22 July, and targeted at communities hosting Pre-Games Training Camps, Host a Nation Week encourages local communities, community groups, business groups and sports clubs to not only celebrate the teams and countries using their local facilities, but also forge new and strengthen existing cultural, sporting and business links with countries from across the world.

Pre-Games Training Camps are basing themselves at a number of world-class training facilities at universities, schools, local authority sports centres and centres of excellence right across the UK and will run from May right through to the start of Paralympics. The camps are designed to help visiting athletes acclimatise and fine tune their training so they are ready to produce the performance of a lifetime.

To help generate ideas and support groups who are planning to hold events, the Government Olympic Executive has produced a ‘toolkit’ which is being distributed to host communities who wish to join in the celebrations.
