The Revital-ISE project which aims to revive the River Ise and its surrounding environment and increase community involvement has funded three schools to take part in the national and international project 'Trout in the Classroom'. This project gives children the chance to follow the development of tiny trout in a purpose built mini trout hatchery at their school. This hands-on activity can capture the children's imaginations as well as assisting learning across many areas of the national curriculum.
Children from Havelock Junior School, Desborough released their small fish back into to River Ise on Thursday 21st May where some of the trout may live for the next 5-6 years. Teacher Mrs Evelyn Hartley said 'The children loved watching them grow and came to terms with the fact that nature isn't always kind and animals do die. Thanks again and we look forward to joining in the project next year.'
