M62 - Your Local History

A lot of finds were uncovered during the archaeological evaluation carried out for the M62 Junction 6 Improvement scheme so we thought it would be nice to provide an interactive website so you can see what we found.

Road User Information

The Highways Agency makes an important contribution to road safety in England. As operator of the Strategic Road Network, everything we do has safety implications. We are committed to reducing road casualties and to providing a safer network for all our customers.

A summary of how we're doing to date and the casualty figures on our network can be below:

Our motorways have fewer fatalities than comparable roads in Europe despite carrying more heavy traffic. The Agency's network of roads, motorways, dual carriageways and single carriageways (both urban and rural), carries about a third of all traffic but accounts for only about 8% of all GB casualties.

We will continue to work with partners to improve safety on our roads through engineering, enforcement and education.

Driver Information Programmes (DIPs)

The Agency has developed a toolkit of resources to help local partners to deliver road safety information to our customers. Many are also relevant directly to road users, so please take a look on the right hand side of this page for the appropriate road users' section.

All DIPs are available to download. If you would prefer hard copies of any of the DIPs please contact the HA Information Line ( or 0300 123 5000). We do not hold stock of all DIPs and once they have gone we cannot replace them due to government spending cuts.

Data Source of information

The personal injury accident data has been extracted from the Department for Transport's National Accident Database by the Transport Research Laboratory on behalf of the Highways Agency. The information refers to the accident and casualty data on the reportable Highways Agency's Trunk Road Network.
