Statistical publications are provided in a variety of download formats:
|Clicking on the PDF link will display documents in Portable Document Format (PDF) which require the Adobe Acrobat Reader. This can be downloaded from Adobe's download page. Some users may prefer to save the PDF file to disk by right clicking on the PDF link and then selecting "Save As" or "Save Target As". Adobe Acrobat Reader can then be used to open the PDF file from the saved location. PDF format files available for download from this site typically contain the entire content of a statistical publication.|
|EXCEL||Clicking on the EXCEL link will display Excel spreadsheets which can be read using Microsoft Excel. The Microsoft Spreadsheet File Viewer can be downloaded from this download page. EXCEL format files available for download from this site typically contain only the tables and charts from a statistical publication.|
|HTML||Clicking on the HTML link will display HyperText Mark-up Language documents which can be viewed by web browsers. Latest versions of Mozilla and Opera browsers can be downloaded from the Internet.|
|CSV Data, Flatfile||These are files that contain underlying data that relate to a statistical release. These files are in plain text, and are either comma-separated (.csv), or fixed-width (.dat). Most spreadsheet, database and statistical applications will provide a method by which these files can be imported.|
|Archive (Zip)||This is a method of compressing files. Usually the content of Zip files will be .DAT or .CSV files as discussed above. 7zip is a freeware application which can open zip files and extract their contents; 7-zip can be downloaded here.|
|LINK||This indicates a link to an external site.|
|This indicates that the publication includes information by Local Education Authority (LEA).|
|This indicates that the publication includes information by Local Authority (LA).|
|This indicates that the publication includes information by Local Authority District (LAD).|
|This indicates that the publication includes underlying data.|
In some cases these formats are also used to present additional information related to, but not part of, the statistical publication itself.
