Academies Capital Maintenance Fund 2012-13

The Academies Capital Maintenance Fund 2012-13 is now open for applications, with a four week application window. Academies are encouraged not to leave submission of applications to the final few days. Submission of applications by Friday 23 March 2012 is recommended to avoid missing the deadline due to IT problems, etc. The actual deadline for submission of applications is Wednesday 28 March 2012 at 18:00. It is intended that successful applicants will be notified by end May 2012.

All Academies open on or before 1 March 2012 are eligible to apply in this initial application round. Academies which do so will not be eligible to apply for funding in later 2012-13 application round(s), which will primarily be for those Academies opening later in the year. Each eligible Academy may submit one application consisting of up to three capital projects.

There are two priorities for the fund, though requirements for other urgent capital works may also be considered.

The first priority is to support Academies with significant building condition needs including health and safety issues that cannot be met from routine maintenance or Devolved Formula Capital funding. Academies which have received, or are due to receive, significant capital investment in new building or refurbishment works (e.g. through PFI, Building Schools for the Future or Academies major capital programmes) are unlikely to be prioritised.

The second priority for the fund is to support successful, popular Academies that are currently overcrowded and/or wish to expand their existing facilities and floor space to accommodate more pupils within their existing age range (excluding where this is required because of a Basic Need that their local authority is responsible for).

The Instructions to Applicants are available on the Partnerships for Schools website. Applicants will need to register on the website (as described in the Instruction to Applicants, Section 7) in order to access the application form. The application information includes appropriate contacts for Academies with questions.
