Freedom of information

Freedom of information

These pages tell you how to request information from us under Freedom of Information, as well as allowing you to view information released under the Act. They also explain our publication scheme and give details of the information asset register.

Background information about the Freedom of Information policy can be found on the Ministry of Justice website.

Requesting information

If you would like to request information under the Freedom of Information Act please write to us at:

Information Rights Unit
Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
1 Victoria Street,
London SW1H OET

Alternatively you can email your request to foi.requests@bis.gsi.gov.uk

Please be specific about the information you want, as this will help us to find it for you.

Complaints

Anyone not satisfied with the response to their request may seek a review by writing to the responding official.

The Department's target for a substantive response to a complaint is 20 working days unless the matter is complex, in which case it may take longer. Complainants will be notified of the target date for a response to their complaint and will be kept informed if any delays appear likely. The review will normally be conducted by the relevant Director General.

Anyone who remains unsatisfied with the outcome of a review may apply to the Information Commissioner, who enforces and oversees the Freedom of Information Act.
