Lady Justice Hallett

Lady Justice Hallett Lady Justice Hallett DBE was called to the Bar in 1972 and practised in civil, family and criminal law for many years. She was appointed Queens Counsel in 1989 following which she specialised in the most serious criminal cases, prosecuting and defending.

Lady Justice Hallett was elected Leader of the South Eastern Circuit in 1995 and Chairman of the Bar of England and Wales in 1998.

Her judicial career began in 1985 when she began sitting as a fee paid judge in the Crown Court. In 1999 she was appointed a High Court Judge and Dame Commander of the British Empire. She served as Presiding Judge of the Western Circuit for 4 years trying, inter alia, many high profile murder trials. In 2005 she was appointed to the Court of Appeal and made a Privy Counsellor. 

She is presently Chairman of the Judicial Studies Board.

She is married with 2 children.
