Research Project List - G01 Analytical Techniques
Since the introduction of GM foods and the technologies used to produce them, there has been a need for research into methods for detecting GMOs and GM foods, as well as methods to assess their safety.
The projects funded in this area of research are designed to answer one or more of these requirements.
G01016: Survey of analytical techniques available and under development for long term monitoring of food safety of GMO and their products
This research project aims to find up-to-date information on the analytical techniques used to investigate and ensure the food safety of GM foods and products by the biotechnology and novel foods industry.
Results available.
G01017: Development of methods to study the implications of vector insertion/excision for endogenous DNA function in transgenic peas
This research project aimed to develop technology to form the basis for an analytical service, which could be employed routinely to assess any new transgenic crop.
Results available.
G01018: Methods for the study of vector insertion and marker gene excision in a monocotyledon system
This research project aims to further scientific understanding and improve techniques of gene insertion.
Results available.
G01019: An examination of the pleiotropic effects that may result from multigene insertions in tomato, and the effect of outcrossing on recombination and segregation in these multigene transformants
This research project aims to further the scientific understanding of the effects of insertion of large amounts of DNA into plants.
Results available.
G01020: Pilot study to assess molecular methods that might be applied to the safety evaluation of novel foods
This research project aims to evaluate the potential of proteomic and metabolomic profiling for incorporation into safety assessment procedures for novel foods.
G01023: Development of sensitive and robust mass spectrometric methods for detection of GM material in food ingredients
This research project aims to develop a new method for the detection of GM proteins in food products.
Results available.
G01024: An investigation into the use of electrospray-TOF to quantify specific DNA fragments generated from GMOs
This research project aims to develop a new method to detect and quantify specific DNA sequences without PCR amplification.
Results available.
G01025: Novel methods for detection of GM materials in foods and food ingredients
This research explores the application of different analytical methods (non-PCR based) for the detection of GM materials.
Results available.
