Agency consults on improvement agents

The FSA has issued a consultation document on new EU proposed regulations for improvement agents in food.

Improvement agents cover:

• food additives
• enzymes
• flavourings

The new regulations will update the rules on additives and flavourings and will set the rules on enzymes for the first time.

The proposals will also put in place a single process for approval of improvement agents.

The closing date for comments on the proposals is 27 November 2006, but it would help if comments could be made earlier as discussions will begin in Brussels on 20 September 2006.
