British Bakeries recalls bread
Wednesday 31 May 2006
British Bakeries has recalled a batch of its Scottish Plain Batch Bread 800g loaves, packed under the brand names Mother's Pride and Tesco, because they could contain metal fragments. The Agency has issued a Food Alert for Information.
The products being recalled are:
- Mother's Pride Scottish Plain Batch Bread 800g Medium cut
- Tesco Scottish Plain Batch Bread 800g
The recalled batch code is: Best Before 1 June 2006.
No other batch codes or British Bakeries products are known to be affected.
The contamination occurred after an isolated mechanical failure at one of British Bakeries Scottish bakeries.
British Bakeries has placed product recall notices in the national press today and said that anyone with an affected loaf should return it to the shop at which it was bought for a full refund. The affected loaves were available in the shops from 29 May 2006. British Bakeries has set up a consumer care line on 020 7255 5483.
Food alerts
Food alerts are the FSA's way of letting local authorities and consumers know about problems associated with food and, in some cases, providing details of specific action to be taken. They are issued under two categories:
- Food Alerts: for Action
- Food Alerts: for Information
