Standards for England investigations

The majority of investigations into complaints that members of local authorities have breached their authority’s Code of Conduct are conducted locally. However, Standards for England will investigate the most serious cases where the local standards committee believes it is not best placed to deal with the matter and we agree with them. We cannot receive complaints directly without a referral from a standards committee.

This guide is about investigations carried out by ethical standards officers employed by Standards for England into complaints that members of local authorities have breached their authority’s Code of Conduct.
