Information for visitors

Useful information for visitors to our Leeds office including access, parking, public transport and routes to the office on foot.

Public transport

We recommend that visitors to our Leeds office use public transport where possible.  Our office is close to Leeds City Train Station and bus stops for most local routes.

Walking route to the office

The walking route to the office is sloping, with a shallow slope. It is approximate 30 metres away from any parking spaces, and 60 metres away from Leeds train station. There is some seating provided on the route from the train station to the building.

The route from the nearest municipal car park and the railway station is wide and free of kerbs, with well maintained crossings marked with appropriate tactile paving, as might be expected of a major city location. Large sections of the route are free of obstacles. It should be noted that on the route up Albion Street, there is an escalator enclosure and an equivalent staircase into the nearby shopping centre. The underside area to the staircase is not cordoned off in any way and this could be hazardous to those making their way from the public transport drop off points on Boar Lane. The route is due to be improved and updated as part of the renovation work which is taking place throughout the city.

All visitors should note that the area outside of City Exchange is a pedestrian zone which is accessible to vehicles before 10:30am and after 4:30pm.

Parking spaces

Visitors who require parking can use the Leeds West Riding House or Leeds NCP Core car parks which are both located on Albion Street or Leeds NCP Boar Lane, located on the Bourse south side. These car parks have spaces for blue badge holders and are the closest car parks to City Exchange.

There are four blue badge parking bays on Lower Basinghall Street, which runs parallel to Albion Street. There are eight blue badge parking spaces further up Albion Street beyond the NCP Core car park. The distance from the entrance to the building is over 20 metres on sloping ground. Unfortunately, there is no parking directly associated with the building.

The NCP car park on Boar Lane is within 50 metres of the entrance to the building and has car parking spaces reserved for blue badge holders. It is recommended that visitors with blue badges who wish to arrive by car are advised to park in this car park upon visiting City Exchange. Other visitors should be directed where possible to use the train or the bus. CWDC operates a reimbursement scheme for blue badge holders who are required to use the car park or a taxi for their travel to the building. Please contact us for further information about this scheme.

There is a location map detailing where we are in relation to the train station and car parks. Please contact us if you require this information in an alternative format.

Entrance to the building

The main entrance is identified by a building sign in steel against a wooden background 'City Exchange'. There is step and ramp access to the front of the building which has glazed automatic doors that open to a width of 1 metre and the threshold is level.

On the entrance floor, there is a building reception desk which is staffed during office hours. There is a directory of building occupiers identifying CWDC on the second floor.

There are four large lifts available and one of them is a fire evacuation lift that can be used for emergency evacuation purposes. The internal lift size is more than 1.6 metres wide, there are support rails in the lift cars and the doors open to a width of 900 millimetres. There is a door edge pressure system on the lifts and there is voice indication of the floor reached. The exit door for the lift is on the opposite side to the entry door.

Children's Workforce Development Council offices second floor

CWDC is based on the second floor. There is a sign opposite the lift door on the wall which gives the organisation's name and the floor number. To access reception, turn right out of the lifts. Proceed through glass doors into the reception lobby where there is a low level desk reception desk that is staffed during office hours. Please notify the reception staff if you will require additional assistance during emergency evacuation procedures.

WC provision

There are two types of accessible WC provision on the second floor. There is a larger cubicle with an outward opening door in the ladies and there is a separate unisex accessible high specification toilet and accessible shower available.
