Action for Children supports and speaks out for the most vulnerable and neglected children and young people in the UK

The Children's Society is a leading children's charity committed to making childhood better for all children in the UK

The Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) has been created to help prevent unsuitable people from working with children and vulnerable adults. 

Every Child Matters (ECM) is a UK government initiative that was launched in 2003 and covers children and young adults up to the age of 19.

Working together to safeguard children - paper that sets out the responsibilities of all those working with children. The cross government Staying Safe Action Plan published in February 2008, supports and promotes this.

Staying Safe Action Plan - this action plan sets out the work which the Government will take forward over the next three years to drive improvements in children and young people’s safety.

NSPCC - the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) has one aim to end cruelty to children. Their website contains a host of information on child cruelty and protection it identifies safeguarding as a key policy area.

Barnado's  - whatever the issue from drug misuse to disability; youth crime to mental health; sexual abuse to domestic violence; poverty to homelessness; Barnardo's believes they can bring out the best in every child. Barnado's runs almost 400 projects around the UK. Barnado's offers training on safeguarding to provide large groups of staff with an awareness of the legislation and an understanding of their role in relation to child protection.

Charity Commission - safeguarding guidance for charities the Charity Commission aims to increase public trust and confidence in charities and, as part of the registration process, it always asks organisations working with children for (a) information about the policies and procedures which they have in place for keeping children safe and (b) disclosure of Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) certificates in respect of trustees where the charity is legally entitled to obtain these.

Safe Network is jointly managed by the NSPCC and Children England, and was created as a result of the Government's Staying Safe action plan.

Children's Act
The Children Bill received Royal Assent on 15 November and is now the Children Act 2004. The Act provides a legislative spine for the wider strategy for improving children's lives. This covers the universal services which every child accesses, and more targeted services for those with additional needs.

The Schools Recruitment Service - This is an innovative system providing schools in England with an improved process for recruiting all permanent, part-time and contract school staff. It also streamlines the application process for those applying for jobs. As a new Service it will take some time for vacancies to build on the system but with over 8,000 schools preparing to upload their roles, job alerts will ensure you see new vacancies as they are added.
