Summary

Bradford City Park is just 1 part of a 15-year city regeneration project to transform Bradford. Based on a unique ‘park in the city’ concept, this vision for Bradford will change people’s perceptions of living, working and playing in the city centre.

Phase one of the project, located in the heart of the city centre adjacent to City Hall, is the centre piece of the Bradford city centre master plan. The project involves the construction of a park set in high quality landscaping together with water features which form a mirror pool. The pool can be drained to provide outside performance space. In addition, the project provides the initial infrastructure for the future development of adjacent grade A office space.

Initial funding for the project was sought from the Lottery. The bid was unsuccessful, but undeterred by this setback Yorkshire Forward and Bradford Council pressed on with the project, putting together a funding package of £19.5m (£6.3m from Yorkshire Forward) to deliver the scheme.

The project commenced on site in October 2009 and is due for completion in 2011, providing Bradford with one of the best public open spaces in the country.
