Broad Street, Halifax

Introduction

This is the largest renaissance project to start on site in Calderdale and will dramatically transform Halifax by providing much needed leisure, parking and office facilities at the heart of the town centre.

Summary

This is the largest renaissance project to start on site in Calderdale and will dramatically transform Halifax by providing much needed leisure, parking and office facilities at the heart of the town centre. The £50m scheme includes a nine-screen cinema, 100-bed hotel, tenpin bowling, shops and restaurants, as well as a 429 space multi-storey car park and 42,000 sq ft of grade A office space.

The project has long been in the pipeline, but suffered several setbacks over the last couple of years, such as the loss of a key anchor tenant and the onset of the credit crunch. Yorkshire Forward has been instrumental in bringing this project to fruition, by investing £2.9m towards construction costs. This investment critically enabled the scheme to achieve the difficult criteria required to secure scarce financial support from the bank.

Work has already started on site and phase one is due to be complete late summer 2011.
