The ‘SEE for the 2012 Games’ Core Group is committed to ensuring that Yorkshire and the Humber achieves a fantastic legacy of skills, employability and education for the region’s businesses, individuals and communities.
The Group fully supports the ambitions of the region’s Yorkshire Gold strategy to seize the opportunities of the Games in areas such as sport, tourism, culture, business and communities and has recently agreed to focus on four areas – ‘signature projects’ - for 2009 and 2010 where it thinks it can add real value. Vocational skills competitions are a useful way in which we can connect with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games as there are so many parallels... the celebration of excellence and fair play; the spirit of competition; the hours of training that ultimately might lead to a gold, silver or bronze medal; the buzz of being amongst the best in the world in your chosen field of expertise.
A small working group has been set up to explore the opportunities for running some small Personal Best pilot programmes in the region by 2010.
