The TDA has supported a number of small scale research projects with research and development awards, most recently with a focus on special educational needs (SEN).
These awards were designed to support the development of the SEN knowledge base in initial teacher training (ITT) by funding innovative, exploratory and developmental research projects.
The projects aimed to increase the research available and encourage collaboration. They dealt with current and emerging issues for teacher educators and served as exploratory or pilot studies for larger scale research.
The completed research reports for all previous rounds of research and development awards, including the SEN-focussed awards, are available on the Teacher Training Resource Bank (TTRB).
Emerging areas of SEN research: Foetal Alcohol Syndrome (FASD)
Educational Implications of Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FAS-eD Project)
This research project aims to:
- enable educators to support the learning needs of children affected
- construct personalised learning pathways that are relevant and pertinent to children's learning profiles
- promote an appreciation of families as co-educators of children with FASD
The full report will be published on the TTRB website in November 2010.
