The emsource project was initiated and funded by the East Midlands Regional Archive Council (EMRAC). The aim of the project is to promote access to archives by learning and educational communities within the East Midlands, and to develop the use of archive resources for educational purposes.
EMRAC appointed a Regional Archive Education Officer (RAEO) to manage the emsource project. The RAEO consulted at regular intervals with the EMRAC Education Board which included the Regional Archive Development Officer (RADO), the heads of service of the five local authority record offices and one specialist university department in the region, plus the PGCE subject leader for History at Nottingham University School of Education. In addition, the RAEO reported to the EMRAC Council, which included representatives from a wider range of archive repositories in the East Midlands. The RAEO was based at the East Midlands Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (EMMLAC) offices, and worked in close collaboration with EMMLAC staff on the emsource project.
Phase 2, for which funding has recently been secured, will extend the focus to include lifelong learners; it will also become cross-domain.
