2005

Jura Consultants was commissioned by Bolton Metropolitan BoroughCouncil (BMBC) and MLA North West in May 2005 to undertake an economic valuation of Boltonís museum, library and archive services.

BMBC and MLA North West share the aim of raising the profile of museums, libraries and archives with key decision-makers by demonstrating the value of the sector to the local economy in a way which is robust and tangible.

This study used the Contingent Valuation technique to demonstrate the consumer surplus attributable to Boltonís museum, library and archive services. This follows a major study in 2003 conducted at the British Library which assessed its value to the UK economy using a similar methodology.
