Who needs to be authorised?
All persons providing a regulated claims management service must be authorised by the Claims Management Regulator unless they are covered by an exemption.

Applying for Authorisation – Fees
There are two fees that are payable: an Application Fee that is paid with every application for authorisation, and an annual fee that must be paid before the applicant is authorised and then each year thereafter.
After 1st April 2011 the application fee is £750 for all applications.
The cheque for the application fee should be made payable to the Ministry of Justice.
NOTE: where an application for authorisation is successful, an invoice will then be issued for the annual fee. The applicant will not be authorised until payment of the annual fee has been received.

Applicants should be aware that a number of checks are routinely carried out on applicants. These checks can lead to delays in processing the application, for example if the applicant fails to respond to a request for information or documents (such as I.D. documents), or if the applicant has not ensured, before submitting the application that:

The authorisation process begins with the applicant submitting a fully completed application form to the Claims Management Regulator, with a cheque for the Application Fee.
