The Department for Transport commissioned qualitative research to provide in-depth understanding of the experiences, behaviour and attitudes of people who mix drinking and driving. The findings were to inform Department for Transport policy on drinking and driving, drink-drive campaigns, and quantitative surveys of drink driving. A review of the relevant research was undertaken in parallel and the results are contained in a separate report (Hopkin et al., 2010).
