Biography of Hugo Swire
Hugo Swire was appointed Minister of State for Northern Ireland in the coalition Government in May 2010. He was elected MP for East Devon in June 2001.
Hugo was a member of the Northern Ireland Affairs Select Committee between 2002 and 2005 and was Chairman of the Speakers Advisory Committee on Works of Art from 2001 to May 2010.
Born in 1959 Hugo worked for Sotheby’s, London for 9 years. He worked for the National Gallery for 4 years as their first Head of Development. He has also worked in independent television and financial public relations. After leaving St Andrews University Hugo served in the Armed Forces.
In opposition Hugo was Chairman of the Conservative Middle East Council, Chairman of the All Party United Arab Emirates Group and Treasurer of the All Party Oman Group.
Hugo's outside interests whilst in opposition included: Non-Executive Chairman of Photo Me International PLC and Non-Executive Director of Symphony Environmental PLC.
Hugo has raised millions of pounds for different charities as an auctioneer. He is married to Sasha, has two daughters and lives in East Devon and London.
