UK IPBES Workshop

JNCC and Defra jointly hosted a workshop on 5 July 2011 in London.  The objective of the workshop was to ensure the UK government liaises in an appropriate way with the UK biodiversity science and policy community before the first IPBES plenary session in October 2011. The workshop focussed on

  • focus on how to engage the UK science/policy community with the four identified functions of IPBES,
  • seek to determine how best to ensure future engagement between scientists (social and natural), UK Government (across Whitehall) and other national stakeholders including NGOs and business),
  • produce outcomes that will help frame policy discussions with other EU Member States, and
  • ensure that UK and EU positions at the plenary session are based on a sound understanding of global evidence needs on biodiversity and ecosystem services.
