You need to send your completed passport application and documents to our Regional Passport Processing Centre in Hong Kong for processing.
Please note the following changes that will affect your passport application. With effect from 18 August 2011, the Regional Passport Processing Centre in Hong Kong will process your passport. The passport will be printed in the United Kingdom. You will receive two packages, one containing the supporting documents you submitted, and the second package directly from the UK with your new passport.
These changes will ensure that you receive the new style passports which were introduced in the UK in October 2010. The new passports have more sophisticated security features, required to meet international quality and security standards. It is not affordable to print these new passports overseas. New designs and processes reduce the likelihood of identity theft and passport fraud, protecting British nationals and our borders.
Please see our Frequently Asked Questions for further details on these important changes.
We recommend that you print this page, so you can refer to it. Print
RPPC - 5th Floor
1 Supreme Court Road
(Please note that Hong Kong addresses do not have post-codes).
We recommend that you send us your application by secure means such as by registered post or by courier. The British High Commission in Singapore has negotiated a preferential rate with DHL for sending passport applications and associated documentation from Singapore to Hong Kong. This preferential rate is currently available at DHL offices in Singapore. For security reasons, please make sure that you do not highlight on the outside of the envelope that it contains a passport application.
Passport fees are:
Courier fee - Each customer will be required to pay a courier fee to cover the cost of the return of supporting documents from Hong Kong and for the delivery of the new passport from the UK.
Please click here to see our list of fees in Hong Kong dollars.
You will need to pay the exact fee (passport fee(s) plus courier fee) either by credit card using the credit card form, or by International Banker's Draft, payable in Hong Kong Dollars (HK$) to "British Consulate-General Hong Kong". We only accept debit cards which have either the Mastercard or Visa symbol, as usually these can be processed as payment by credit card. No other debit cards are accepted. Please note that if paying by credit card, the payment will be taken in Hong Kong dollars at the prevailing rate when your application is received. Your credit card company may charge an additional fee for this. We do not accept payment by personal cheque.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH
We aim to process the new passport within four weeks from the date the fee is taken and the application contains all of the information we need. Failure to provide all of the required documentation will result in your application being delayed or returned.
If it is a first time application (this includes children who have not had their own passport before, customers changing their name other than by marriage or replacing an old blue passport), or you are replacing a lost or stolen passport, you should allow at least six weeks.
We would remind customers that travel should not be booked until a passport has been issued and received by you. We cannot accept responsibility for any costs incurred if travel is booked and subsequently cancelled before you have received your passport.
Your passport will be dispatched to you from the UK. Where appropriate, your supporting documents will be sent back to you from the Passport Processing Centre. Both shipments are handled by DHL Worldwide.
DHL advise that delivery of supporting documentation should take one to two working days from dispatch from the Consulate-General in Hong Kong. Delivery of your passport will take up to two working days from UK dispatch.
FIRST TIME APPLICATIONS: CHILDREN BORN IN SINGAPORE: Please be aware, that for babies born in Singapore, if neither parent is Singaporean, the Singapore authorities require the child to have a passport within 42 days from the date of birth of the child. If you are close to the 42 day period and you have applied for a British passport from Hong Kong for your child, you should present the DHL airway bill for the passport application, to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authoritiy of Singapore and apply for an extension.
NATIONALITY ENQUIRIES: Please note that we are unable to provide advice on enquiries related to nationality. Please see the section on Am I eligible for a UK passport for further information.
All legal documents in a foreign language, submitted with a passport application (such as birth/death/marriage certificates, divorce papers, change of name documents, affidavits, etc) should be translated into English by a professional translator. The translation must be on their company letterhead or have their official stamp/seal/signature, and must give their contact details. NB
You cannot get a friend or relative to do this for you.
If you need detailed information about what type of passport you need, what documents you need to supply for different types of application please go to What passport do I need? page.
