How to apply from Maldives

You need to send your completed passport application and documents to our Regional Passport Processing Centre in Hong Kong for processing.

Changes to your application from 18 August

Please note the following changes that will affect your passport application. With effect from 18 August 2011, the Regional Passport Processing Centre in Hong Kong will process your passport. The passport will be printed in the United Kingdom. You will receive two packages, one containing the supporting documents you submitted, and the second package directly from the UK with your new passport.

These changes will ensure that you receive the new style passports which were introduced in the UK in October 2010.  The new passports have more sophisticated security features, required to meet international quality and security standards. It is not affordable to print these new passports overseas.  New designs and processes reduce the likelihood of identity theft and passport fraud, protecting British nationals and our borders.

Please see our Frequently Asked Questions for further details on these important changes.

We recommend that you print this page, so you can refer to it. Print

PLEASE DO NOT SEND CASH

Timing

We aim to process the new passport within four weeks from the date the fee is taken and the application contains all of the information we need. Failure to provide all of the required documentation will result in your application being delayed or returned.

If it is a first time application (this includes children who have not had their own British passport before, customers who are changing their name other than by marriage, or replacing an old blue passport), or you are replacing a lost or stolen passport, you should allow at least six weeks.

We would remind customers that travel should not be booked until a passport has been issued and received by you. We cannot accept responsibility for any costs incurred if  travel is booked and subsequently cancelled before you have received your passport.

Delivery back to you

Your passport will be dispatched to you from the UK. Where appropriate, your supporting documents will be sent back to you from the Passport Processing Centre. Both shipments are handled by DHL Worldwide.

DHL advise that delivery of supporting documentation should take up to three working days from dispatch from the Consulate-General in Hong Kong. Delivery of your passport will take up to four working days from UK dispatch.

Specific requirements from the Maldives

There are no additional specific requirements from the Maldives.

NATIONALITY ENQUIRIES: Please note that we are unable to provide advice on enquiries related to nationality.  Please see the section on Am I eligible for a UK passport for further information.

Translations:

All legal documents in a foreign language, submitted with a passport application (such as birth/death/marriage certificates, divorce papers, change of name documents, affidavits, etc) should be translated into English by a professional translator. The translation must be on their company letterhead or have their official stamp/seal/signature, and must give their contact details.  NB  You cannot get a friend or relative to do this for you.
