Introduction

This section of the data portal provides a summary of developments in the UK’s recovered organics market.  The data presented here comes from respected, publicly available and regularly updated sources on the internet.  By following the link(s) above the graphics, you can find out more details on the source of the data and visit the sites to access the full data.

The current highlights and trends are:

  • Gate fees for catering waste at composting facilities remained the same at £42.50 per tonne between July and August 2011, up by £5 from August 2010. Prices for contaminant free compost were unchanged at £8 per tonne, up by £1.50 per tonne from August 2010. 

Fertiliser prices

The chart shows the price for two commonly used types of fertiliser – Amonium Nitrate and Blended 20.10.10 (a blend of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium).  Prices are based on 20-25 tonne load for payment the month following.  Data is not available for Blended 20.10.10 for December 2007.

Organics prices

The price for ‘green waste disposal’ is the typical gate fee paid by a local authority or contractor to deposit green waste at a composting facility.

The price for ‘catering waste disposal’ is the gate fee at a composting facility for organic waste which may contain catering / kitchen waste.

The price for ‘contaminant free compost’ is a guide to the typical sales price of good quality composts and mulches.
