By Car
Ryedale is easy to reach by car. Only an hour from various
motorways including the M1, A1(M), M18 and M62. The A170, A614 and
A64 provide good links from the motorways.

By Bus
The main bus routes through Ryedale are provided by Transdev
Coastliner who run regular buses through Malton from York and Leeds
and on to Pickering, Whitby and the Moors. Also to the coast at
Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. For more information go to the

By Rail
Ryedale, via Malton station, is well served by the
Transpennine express service details of which can be found
below.
Trains run between York and Scarborough, calling at Malton. A
direct train service also operates between Manchester Airport and
Malton. York Station provides the link with all main UK intercity
rail services. Visitors can reach York from London in less than two
hours, and it is only a 30 minute onward rail journey from York to
Malton.

By Sea
Ryedale is served by the ports at Hull and Newcastle.
P & O North Sea Ferries operate a daily, overnight service from
Rotterdam and Zeebrugge into Hull, where it is an easy hour's drive
to Ryedale. If you are a foot passenger you can reach Ryedale from
Hull by taking a bus or train to York or Scarborough and then
change to pick up either the train to Malton or the bus to one of
the towns or villages served by the public transport service.
DFDS Seaways operate services from Holland and Norway to Newcastle,
from which Ryedale is a two-hour drive south by car. If you
are travelling by public transport from Newcastle, you can take the
mainline train to York and then change at York station,
to catch either a train to Malton or a bus to one of the
towns and villages served by the public transport service.

By Air
There are no major airports within the boundaries of
Ryedale
The nearest major airports are Durham Tees Valley, Newcastle
airport, Humberside airport, Robin Hood airport and
Leeds/Bradford International airport.
There are also good rail links to Manchester airport via
Transpennine Express.

built international airport, having commenced operation in April
2005 on the site of the former RAF Finningley air base. The Airport
is located 7 miles from Doncaster and 25 miles from Sheffield,
serving passengers across Yorkshire, the Humber and the North
Midlands.
