Sustainable Consumption and Production

Reducing the waste generated in government offices will help to alleviate environmental degradation and pressure on overflowing landfill sites, as well as reduce the carbon dioxide emissions associated with waste management. The government is committed to reducing the amount of waste generated by the office estate and increasing the proportion of the remaining waste that is recycled.

Sustainable Operations on the Government Estate (SOGE) Targets

Reduce waste arisings 5% on 2004/2005 by 2010
Increase proportion of waste arisings recycled 40% on 2004/2005 by 2010
Reduce waste arisings 25% on 2004/2005 by 2020
Increase proportion of waste arisings recycled 75% on 2004/2005 by 2020
