Procurement plays an essential part in the delivery of public services. For commoditised goods and services, OGC is leading collaborative procurement programmes across Government whereby we seek to obtain better value for money, and so release valuable resources to frontline public services. But Government’s major programmes and projects, such as the Olympics or Crossrail, are also dependent on effective procurement, from initial market understanding and engagement through to ongoing contract management.
OGC seeks to improve the Government’s effectiveness in procurement, through its programme of Procurement Capability Reviews, which assess current capacity and capability in central Government departments; through the provision of products and services designed to improve procurement efficiency, such as contract databases and frameworks; through the provision of clear policy guidance and best practice; and by fostering a skilled and professional network in the Government Procurement Service.
