Getting there: No direct public transport. Car: A593 from Ambleside or Coniston. Take minor road right signposted Hodge Close. Car park 50 metres on the left
Route
This undulating path was improved by the National Trust in 2008 and offers a wonderful excursion through Yewdale’s oak woodlands. The steep, craggy slopes of Holme Fell and Yewdale Fell can be seen to the north and west.
From the car park, continue up the road, cross Shepherd’s Bridge and go through a gate on the right. The track surface has been upgraded to smooth compacted stone, but has gradients steeper than 1:10 for short sections.
At the junction with a footpath, which heads north over Holme Fell, bear right and down the steep slope to Yew Tree Farm. Stop here to admire the scenery before returning to the start.
