Effective practice
Sharing effective practice can be an important tool in preventing and cutting crime.
Examples of effective practice
Home Office effective practice is a growing resource, and we will be adding to the examples below on a regular basis.
Burglary, robbery and other theft - examples of effective practice
Techniques used and lessons learned in dealing with cycle theft, vehicle crime, domestic burglary, street crime, acquisitive crime offenders and the market for stolen goods.
Information sharing for community safety
What data should be shared, clarity on legislation, and advice on the processes that can be put in place to help facilitate information sharing.
Sharing effective practice
We plan to spread effective practice by:
- stimulating better gathering and sharing of effective practice by improved communication and engagement with partners
- providing a consistent approach to verification and quality assurance
- disseminating effective practice amongst partners, by an new online resource, peer-to-peer support activity and the Tilley Awards
Examples of effective practice are relevant to community safety partnership responsible authorities, voluntary and community sector agencies, private sector organisations and local communities who are involved in cutting crime. We are developing this approach with the Ministry of Justice.
The Home Office wants to help create an environment in which local partnerships are self-reliant and locally sustainable, and they are confident in using greater freedoms and flexibilities to tackle the issues important to their communities, without waiting for central direction.
We will also identify effective crime-cutting outcomes in local areas, so that community safety partnerships and Policing and Crime Commissioners know what works.
Local successes
While we will provide examples of evidence-based effective practice, we also recognise that local partners are a rich source of innovative and cost-effective work. We will:
- facilitate the dissemination of this effective practice among partners
- highlight partners (at both local and national level) that possess knowledge and expertise in specific areas
