The Environment Agency - Rail Travel Implementation
Following a further competition exercise the Environment Agency appointed Redfern Travel for the fulfilment of their Rail booking and ticketing service.
The Environment Agency spends more than £3.5 million each year on rail travel, with varying requirements for its 4,000 staff who are employed across multi site locations throughout the UK. They tasked Redfern with providing a rail travel booking system that was easy to access and simple to use, which saved money and provided valuable management information on expenditure and the environmental impact of rail journeys undertaken.
The Redfern online booking engine which is available to agency staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it shows time tables and best route options thus giving the booker a range of options upon which informed choices can be made.
The Environment Agency decided to roll out the new booking system across the agency over a six week period at the start of the year, a series of road shows were held at nine regional offices. By mid February more than 4,000 users had been registered on the system with their personal travel profiles, with onsite ticket printers installed at 17 of their offices were usage is highest.
In the first month Environment agency were able to report 19.8% savings on trail travel when compared with standard open return options.
Nick Hodkinson, National Property Strategy Manager, Environment Agency:
'The implementation of the Redfern online system has been an outstanding success. The rapid roll out and adoption by staff has been impressive. As the Environment Agency we were very keen to promote the use of train travel for business use as it produces far less C02 emissions than the car or plane. Working with Redfern Travel has allowed us to promote train travel and cut down on our carbon footprint'.
Helping DWP Save Over £100,000 In Two Months
NYS Corporate, an SME appointed to the Buying Solutions travel management services framework agreement, has been working with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to find new ways of helping it make savings.
The DWP holds several thousand meetings, events and training courses every year. As one of the lead departments supporting the framework agreement, they wanted to make further savings on their conference and meeting expenditure.
These savings were achieved through NYS forming a close relationship with the DWP business travel management team in order to gain deeper understanding of their requirements, and to develop objectives and ways of working together.
Following the in-depth consultation, NYS helped the DWP to make additional savings by using a simple online intranet form to make bookings. This action saved the DWP over £100,000 in just two months.
Aude Malone, DWP Business Travel Category Manager, said:
"NYS have delivered the savings they promised during the tender process, while maintaining a very high quality service. We are directly benefiting from dealing with an SME through the delivery of a personal, flexible, cost effective and efficient service."
