The planning system regulates land use. The Welsh Assembly Government is responsible for the overall framework of the planning system in Wales.

Working with local authorities, the Planning Inspectorate for Wales and other stakeholders, we aim to produce a planning system that is open and fair. The intention is to inspire public and business confidence while meeting Welsh Assembly Government objectives for sustainable development.

The delivery of everyday planning services is normally carried out by the 25 Local Planning Authorities in Wales. Local Authorities are usually your first point of contact when you have a local planning query.
