Service details

Weightmans has a tradition of providing excellent legal and business advice within a collegiate environment and has achieved LEXCEL accreditation. It has associations with law firms in most foreign jurisdictions. Weightmans’ aim is to be the law firm of choice. It achieves this by being client-focused at all times and adding value to every transaction. Staff are encouraged to adopt a commercial, cost-effective and pragmatic approach. Weightmans’ investment in innovation has enabled the firm to maintain its position and to create an effective and inspiring working environment. It is supported by a professional management team who make an important contribution to the success of the business. Weightmans has a strong reputation in the insurance, professional indemnity and healthcare markets. The practice is broken into sectors: insurance; workplace and safety; transport; healthcare; commercial; professional indemnity; large loss and technical; police; construction; and public.

Quality

Weightmans was a Quality Assured Firm under ISO 9001 between October 1996 and December 2003. We took the decision to replace this with Lexcel (the Law Society’s Practice Management standard), which we consider is more appropriate for law firms. We have been Lexcel accredited since June 2004.

We have a dedicated Quality and Risk Management Partner, James Holman, who reports to the Managing Partner at Strategic and Operations Board level. In addition, we have the benefit of a Best Practice and Know How Department headed by Laura Wilkin, Partner, which disseminates recent case law and other materials to all case handlers.

A more detailed explanation of Weightmans’ Lexcel compliant internal quality procedures can be found in our e-Manual. This is a computerised “living” document which is maintained by James Holman, who ensures that it is always current and readily accessible to our case handlers at their desktop via our bespoke Intranet.

We are committed to the fundamental criteria of Best Value (which is also a key part of our Lexcel accreditation) to ensure that there are arrangements in place to facilitate continuous improvements in service quality.

Security and Service

The Risk & Project Manager is responsible for our building security systems.

The Risk & Project Manager is responsible for managing office security including compliance with the CCTV Code of Practice and notification to the Data Protection Commissioner.

CCTV cameras are in operation at Liverpool and Manchester.  They are to prevent, detect and help investigate crime.  They assist public and employee safety and help keep the premises secure. Visible and legible signs are displayed to make everyone aware they are entering a televised zone.

The Risk and Project Manager maintains a record of all security measures in place.

Service

Weightmans operate a dedicated client care programme to meet clients’ service needs and objectives. Your relationship with Steve Peacock, your Client Partner is key.

His aim is to work in partnership with you to provide a flexible, bespoke legal service that delivers genuine value for money and provide you with the service you want.

A crucial aspect is for you the client to appreciate is that this is your contract.   To this end we will work with you to develop the client care service programme that is right for you.

Every 6 – 12 months attitudinal and perception questionnaires completed by key clients, the purpose of which is to enable the client to reflect on the quality of service provided by Weightmans and provide suggestions for any improvement in our service. The results of the survey are then conveyed to the Client Partner for discussion with the client and implementation.

Weightmans aims to exceed your expectations and, to this end, client care and service is fundamentally important.

Organisation Accreditation

In 2004 we were awarded Lexcel accreditation. In order to retain our accreditation we are audited annually. Our next audit is due in July 2007.

Weightmans was nominated in October for the Insurance times Law Firm of the Year.
