Not sure what to write in your blog? Get some top tips on blogging!
Your school/college blog is a safe, protected place to record your ideas, actions so far and the things you still need, or plan, to do. Other schools and colleges around the country will be doing the same thing.
Here’s a couple of examples:
- If you decide to host a fair play awards ceremony, take photographs and put them on your blog with a short summary of what you did and who took part.
- If you decide to organise a sporting or other special event, perhaps with another local school, college or community group, you could use your blog to help you stay organised, tell people what’s going on and paste a few photographs and maybe some quotes about how good it was.
Tip 1: Less is more
Keep your entries short and punchy – who wants to scroll through pages of stuff to get to the main points?
Tip 2: Equality and respect
Have a discussion about the sort of things you might want to post on your blog, and make sure everyone agrees. Your blog should be open to all members of the school community, but you might want to keep some kind of control over it, otherwise it could become massive.
Tip 3 : Excellence and determination
Set up a rota of blog writers. Each week the writer’s job is to add all the new information to the blog and follow up any actions with the rest of your Get Set network team.
Ask your teacher/tutor, and your team mates, to help you delete any blogs that clearly don’t need to be up there. Avoid clutter as you’ll only have to edit it all later on.
Tip 4: Respect
Make sure your blog entries are positive and helpful. Never write anything about other people that you wouldn’t want to read about yourself.
Tip 5: Mind your language!
Think: what is it I want to tell people? How can I make it interesting? Think and write like a journalist. A blog is just like a diary, you haven’t got room to include everything. Go for excellence. We do not allow swear words or intimidating language.
