EYFS resources
Find out what EYFS resources are available for early years practitioners, year 1 teachers and local authority moderators.
We provide resources for early years practitioners, year 1 teachers and moderators. These resources help them assess, complete and moderate EYFS profiles and to make the best possible use of the information the profiles contain.
EYFS handbook
The handbook provides comprehensive guidance on completing the profiles of childrens' learning, development and level of attainment at the end of the EYFS. It describes the assessment process and outlines practitioner and moderator responsibilities for assessing, completing, recording and moderating them. It also contains detailed guidance on using the 13 assessment scales. Each scale and scale point is illustrated with practical examples.
A summary of the scales and scale points can be found in the Assessment scales reference sheet.
Downloadable video clips illustrating the assessment scales are also available on our EYFS profile video clips page.
Continuing the learning journey
This training package, comprising a DVD and explanatory printed materials, is designed to help year 1 teachers get the maximum benefit from the information provided in children's EYFS profiles, which in turn will assist their transition from the EYFS to key stage 1.
Assessment and reporting arrangements
See guidance on EYFS profile assessment and reporting arrangements in 2010. Anyone responsible for assessment and reporting of EYFS profiles should read these requirements so they are aware of any changes from previous years.
Additional guidance and case studies
These resources, covering a range of topics such as engaging parents, and assessing children who are learning English as a second language, can be found in the EYFS profile resource pack in the resource library.

Support for moderators
We provide a programme of training and support for local authority moderators who work with early years practitioners to ensure that they are applying nationally agreed standards of assessment accurately and consistently. Further information can be found on our Support for moderators page.
